Soprano - Anna Walker
Piano - Luba Podgayskaya
The piece was inspired by Schoenberg's cabaret songs, and it tells the tragic story of the biblical Enoch. Composed especially for the MiniConcert series in the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam, as part of Schoenberg/Kandinsky exhibition. (2-2-2014)
The text is in Hebrew, edited by the composer from several biblical sources (Translation):
Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away
(Genesis 5)
Enoch walked faithfully with God; with the angels he walked 300 years in heaven, and learned for them Intercalation and periods and many wisdoms (Genesis 5 + Midrash Agada).
And what was, and what will be in the end of times he saw in a vision of his dream (Jubilees 4)
Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. God took him from humans and made him an angel and he is Metatron. (Jubilees 4).
Are there two authorities in heaven? (Hagigah page 16)
